FAQ

When are you open?

We are open from 8am-6pm Monday-Friday. We may be able to offer some variation of these times in certain circumstances so just get in touch to discuss your individual requirements. We are open during most bank holidays.

Can my child come for half a day?

We have 2 sessions each day, an AM session (8am-1pm) and a PM session (1pm-6pm). You are more than welcome during either of these times slots or of course you come for the whole day.

How many children do you look after?

At the moment each day we can care for 6 children under 5 years old and 1 child over 5 years old who attends a local primary school.

Why do you charge more than other childminders?

Our hourly fee is slightly higher in comparison with other local childminders and more in line with the cost of local nurseries. We feel that this charge is appropriate for our setting as the facilities provided are on par with that of local nurseries.

In addition we feel we have major benefits over local nurseries such as daily outings, a smaller setter, lower staff turnovers so the children can really bond with the caregiver, calm loving home from home environment and experienced childcare providers that will always put the needs of the children first.

Do you provide discounts?

At present we do not provide a discount. However, this may change in the future so please get in touch if you feel a discount would be suitable in your circumstances.

How can I get help with my childcare costs?

You may be able to get help with the cost of childcare but it does depend on your circumstances. Click here to find out what help is available to you.

Do you accept childcare vouchers?

Yes, we accept all forms of childcare vouchers there are a few details that we would need to talk about first so if part of your payment will be in the form of childcare vouchers please let us know in advance.

What does your rate include?

Our rate includes all equipment, toys, activities, outings, snacks, drinks and wipes. All you need to bring are nappies (reusable nappies are fine in our setting) and lunch/dinner or we can provide main meals at an additional cost of 50p per meal.

Can you take siblings?

We can happily take siblings provided we have spaces available for the days and times you require.

Why are meals only 50p?

All food provide with children is nutritious and forms part of a balanced healthy diet. The cost of meals is a nominal amount and is designed to cover the cost of ingredients only; we do not make any money by proving your child with lunch/diner.

The cost is relatively low as we are able to buy ingredients in bulk due to the numbers we are cooking for. In addition we buy lots of our fruit and veg from the local green grocer whom we find a lot more reasonable that major supermarkets.

The low cost of meals is no reflection on the quality of food being provided and we are happy to provide you with a typical weekly menu.

What food will the children eat?

All food provided will form part of a healthy balanced diet; we do not believe in labelling food as “good/bad” and instead aim to teach children that all food is ok to eat so long as it is eaten in moderation.

Meals will alternate between vegetarian and meat based (ie. Monday, vegetarian; Tuesday, Meat based etc) and we will also provide a ‘pudding’ with each meal be that fruit, yogurt or even some flapjacks we might have baked together. Snacks will mainly be fruit or veg based or we may occasionally provide food from the organixs food range.

All drinks provided will either be fruit juice, squash or milk (usually with meals) and children will be encouraged to drink water throughout the day.

We are happy to cater to allergies, vegetarianism and other diet variations.

Can you cater for special diets?

Yes, we are well equipped to deal with gluten, wheat and dairy allergies at present and are happy to meet any other diets.

My child wears re-useable nappies is this ok?

Of course!

What if my child is ill?

From time to time children may become ill. Poorly children need to be at home where they can recuperate in the comfort of their own surroundings with mum/dad. If your child is showing any signs of illness please do not bring them to the setting as it may make other children unwell. You will be charged at your usual rate if your child is unwell in most circumstances.

What if I want to go on Holiday?

If you plan to go on holiday during a time when you would usually be a Playful Penguins we ask that you let us know in advance. Any holiday time you plan that falls on a day you would usually attend the setting will be charged at your usual rate.

What if the childminders are ill?

If only one of is ill we will be open as usual as we have qualified CRB checked Ofsted Registered assistants we can call upon.

If both of us are ill then the setting will be closed and you will have to arrange alternative care for your children; you will not be charged if the setting is closed due to illness.

What if the childminders want go on holiday?

The setting will be closed for 2 consecutive weeks in every day for Hayley and Toni to take a well deserved rest! We will always provide you with plenty of notice of these two weeks and you will not be charged if the setting is closed due to holidays.

Do you work bank holidays?

Yes we are open most bank holidays (closed boxing day).

When are you closed?

We will be closed for 2 consecutive weeks in each year for holidays, Christmas day and boxing day.

Where is your Ofsted report?

As we are newly registered with Ofsted we have not yet had our first official inspection.

We have had a pre-registration inspection which is where an inspector comes to the premises prior to its opening to ensure that it is safe and well equipped for children and that staff are well trained and understand the importance of their role.

Our first official inspection will take place 6 months after our opening so we anticipate it will take place in April 2010. We are aiming and really hope to achieve an outstanding grading from Ofsted – fingers crossed!

Do you do overnights/weekends/babysit?

Yes we are happy to help you out in whatever way we can and feel that the more consistent your childcare the better it is for you children, we have looked after many different children overnight and have even run a crèche at a wedding. Just get in touch to discuss your requirements.
